Announcing our third annual holiday concert! For those who have attended in the past, fully three quarters of the repertoire will be new selections! We are focusing this year mainly on material from 1400-1700s: unearthly Medieval chant, lesser-known Renaissance carols, unusual wassail songs, plus a few favorite 18th-19th century carols — singing from transcriptions of the original source material whenever available. Some feature arrangements of by our Artistic Director, Garald Farnham, and by Aaron Wunsch, noted Juilliard pianist and Minister of Music at Advent Lutheran Church. Please join your favorite Renaissance quartet in celebrating an ‘Early Christmas’!

Ian Capps, host of Hawaii Public Radio’s The Early Muse, featured three of our songs in his May 9, 2010 show titled “Popular Music in 17th Century England” — ‘It was a lover and his lass,’ ‘Heigh ho! for a husband,’ and ‘Bugle Britches.’ Broadcast transcript follows after the break…

Tenor Christopher Preston Thompson, who has joined us for our Shakespeare concert, sang the role of the Artist in David Chesky’s new opera, “The Pig, The Farmer and the Artist” in the NYC Fringe Festival. The show won a 2010 Fringe Fest Excellence Award for Best Music and Lyrics and we’re betting it gets picked up for a longer run. Is The Pig… the next Urinetown? Producers were scrambling for tickets on closing night!
Congrats, Christopher! Fabulous work.

Well, we’re back from the tour now and planning for upcoming seasons. We’d like to thank all of our host venues and homestay families. Thank you for the beds, the wonderful food, the local impromptu neighborhood tours and parties. Your generosity and graciousness made our visits to your communities very special.
Our tour has already garnered us one new booking and invitations to return everywhere we played. At the Lute Society seminar, many people told us after our performance to “keep going with this — you’ve got something really special here.” One grad student told us “I’ve been studying lute songs for two years and I’m so excited to see this! You’ve expanded my view of what lute song performance can be.” If you attended one of our concerts and would like to give us feedback, please send us an email via the Contact page.
As for future plans, we’re contacting local and regional presenters to continue to spread “the Shakespeare” as far and wide as possible. We’ll also be adding music to our annual holiday program and starting work on a new program of traditional ballads and folk songs.
No performances scheduled at the moment. Please check back soon.
