Shakespeare Songs, Set 5, from The Good Pennyworths’ Concert at LSA 2010
The fifth set from the performance “True Love Never Did Run Smooth” by The Good Pennyworths at the 2010 Lute Society of America Summer Seminar and Lute Festival, combining lutesongs, ayres and madrigals with dialog from Shakespeare’s plays. This set is entitled “Down! Thou Climbing Sorrow.” Songs: “Take, o take those lips away” (Measure for Measure); “Blow, blow thou winter wind” (As You Like It); “And will he not come again” (Hamlet); “Full fathom five” (Tempest); “Fear no more the heat o’ the sun” (Cymbeline). Performers are Erika Lloyd (soprano), Alane Marco (soprano), Christopher Preston Thompson (tenor) and Garald Farnham (baritone and lutes). Coaching on staging and adaptation of the Shakespeare texts was by Katherine Harte-DeCoux. Lutes by Lawrence K. Brown and Michael Schreiner.
